They do have different logos and certain branding elements, but you’ll have a hard time telling the two apart without these. However, the app structure is almost identical. You can download one and you can download the other. Let’s make one thing clear: the two apps are separate food delivery platforms. The only real difference is the design and branding elements. The two services have identical functionalities, restaurants, and are available in the same locations. They even have the same business model and are closely aligned in almost every single aspect of food delivery. Github and Seamless share ownership and the same banner. These two now dominate the food delivery service market. Rather than struggling to topple one another, Grubhub and Seamless decided to join forces and merged under the same umbrella. In time, Grubhub skyrocketed and turned into quite the delivery juggernaut. Before long, Seamless turned into a direct-to-consumer app for ordering food.Ĭompletely independent from Seamless, Grubhub began its journey in 2004, when two web developers, frustrated by the same issues as the lawyers from Seamless, decided to upgrade the experience. They came up with a web-based solution for business-only. ![]() Seamless was founded back in 1999 by two lawyers who weren’t happy with the old-school paper menu method of ordering food. That’s why they’re so similar.Īlthough Grubhub and Seamless are now under the same banner, they started their journeys separately. How come? Well, Grubhub and Seamless are now the same company. However, whether you’re using Grubhub or Seamless, the order you make will be delivered by the exact same drivers. The driver, of course, gets a small fee for their service. Regardless of whether the restaurant has opted for internalized delivery or Grubhub/Seamless-provided delivery, the driver will pick up the order and deliver it directly to the customer. The user can then place an order and wait for delivery. Both are on-demand food delivery services offering convenient ways to order and receive foodīoth of these services feature mobile apps that effectively look for available (and supported) restaurants near the user’s location. Their target groups are roughly the same. Grubhub and Seamless aren’t identical, but they are pretty similar. Comparing the two and knowing which one to go with when you’re starving is a smart way to go. Grubhub and Seamless are among the most prominent food delivery services on the market. Having a preferred app is important if you want to be able to order takeout as soon as you hear your stomach growling. (I've ordered from plenty of other restaurants with the stored payment information in my account, so I know it's not an issue on my side.Over the course of the last decade, the world of food takeout ordering has changed completely. But how could their payment system be down for 3+ months? Surely they'd notice if they were sending out numerous unpaid seamless orders. ![]() They kept apologizing for the cancellation, not acknowledging that wasn't the issue, and finally said the restaurant's payment system is down. (The time before that, I received an error when placing the order, instead of a cancellation.) Then, as now, they were entirely unaware that the order had been cancelled. The last time I ordered, it was a for a pick-up order, and the restaurant called me at the end of the night to ask why I never picked it up. I haven't ordered from this restaurant in 3+ months, because this keeps happening. It wouldn't bother me as much if this were the first time. I said no, and they said "okay, free food then, it'll be there in an hour." I told them about the cancellation notice from Seamless, and they said "did you want to cancel?". ![]() I called the restaurant to confirm that it was actually cancelled, and they said no, it's still in their system. I placed an order at a nearby restaurant via Seamless, and immediately received a notification that the order had been canceled with the reason, "Unfortunately, we're unable to fulfill this order."
